Sleeve is the more common choice (~80% of patients) — simpler surgery, lower price, excellent results. Bypass is preferred when you have severe GERD or gastrointestinal medical conditions. (Reduces or resolves reflux).
-
Standard criteria: BMI 35+ alone, or BMI 30+ with diabetes, GERD, sleep apnea, hypertension, or significant joint pain. Age 18–70. Cleared for general anesthesia.

Often, yes. We perform sleeve→bypass conversions, re-sleeves, lap-band removals, and pouch resets. Records review (operative report + recent imaging) is required first.

Sleeve: 60–70% of excess weight in 12–18 months. Bypass: 70–80% in 12–18 months. Average year-1 loss: 100–150 lbs depending on starting weight. Long-term maintenance depends on nutrition habits.

Almost never for Mexico surgery. However, our all-inclusive Mexico price is often less than a U.S. deductible alone. HSA/FSA accounts can sometimes be used — confirm with your plan administrator.
-
Complication insurance is included in every package. While you're under our care in Mexico, everything is covered — additional surgeries, extra hospital nights, nursing, medications, extended hotel stays, and flight rebooking. We pay providers directly, no claim forms. Honest note: U.S.-based ER visits and surgeries after you fly home are not covered — that's where U.S. health insurance and travel insurance fill the gap. If you're able to return to us in Mexico, post-op care is covered.
-
Recommended. ~$50–$120 covers flight cancellations, lost luggage, family emergencies. Different from complication insurance.
-
Our nutrition team will follow up weekly during the first month and biweekly during the final phase of your post-op diet. Patients are also encouraged to complete annual check-ins with their primary care physician . The access to a supportive bariatric patient community throughout their journey will be available.
-
Yes, lifelong. Bariatric multivitamin, calcium citrate, B12, vitamin D — daily, forever. Skipping leads to serious deficiencies (anemia, osteoporosis, neuropathy) over time. ~$40–70/month from any reputable bariatric brand.
-
Some regain (5–15%) is common years 3–5. Larger regain usually means habits drifted — re-engage with the community, your nutritionist, and the basics (protein first, no liquids with meals, log meals). Significant regain may warrant revision evaluation. We don't disappear when the scale moves.
