Honest
Clear about what's not covered after you fly home
CandidacyIs the gastric sleeve right for you?
If the bullets below describe you, you're almost certainly a candidate. Your coordinator will confirm the details after you apply — and we only approve patients who are medically safe to proceed.
Pre-surgery testing
If your surgeon orders extra cardiac or pulmonary testing for safety (typically $400+), we cover it. Even if you fail clearance and we cancel the surgery — you don't pay for the testing. Your protection starts before the OR.
Additional surgeries during your stay
If a complication arises and you need to return to the OR — leak repair, bleeding control, anything — there's no bill. During your operation we address any health concern we find, with full resources, at no additional cost.
Extended hospital nights & nursing
If you need to stay longer than the standard 2–3 nights, we keep you. Extra hospital nights, 24/7 nursing care, monitoring, and medications — all covered for the duration of your stay.
All medications during recovery
Antibiotics, pain management, anti-nausea, anticoagulants — every medication we administer in-hospital and the take-home pack is covered, including any added meds if a complication occurs.
Extended hotel stay
If we recommend additional observation nights at our partner hotel before you fly home, those nights — including your travel companion's room — are covered. You don't pay for safety.
Flight rebooking
If a complication forces you to extend your stay, we cover the cost of changing your return flight — yours and your companion's. We handle the rebooking through our travel desk so you don't pay change fees out of pocket.
Honest scope
Where coverage starts and stops.
We're upfront about this because we'd rather you know than discover a gap later. Our policy covers everything we can directly control. We can't control U.S. healthcare costs once you fly home — and we won't pretend otherwise.

Once you're back in the U.S., we can't control American hospital pricing — and we don't promise coverage we can't deliver. But here's what we do offer: if you have a post-surgery complication and you're able to return to Pompeii in Mexico, we provide care under this policy at no additional cost.
Call your coordinator first. 24/7 line. They assess the situation and route you fast.
If you can fly back to us, we'll receive you. Surgical evaluation, readmission, follow-up care — covered under this policy.
If you must seek U.S. emergency care, that bill is between you and your U.S. insurance. We'll support you with records, surgical notes, and direct surgeon-to-surgeon communication — but we don't pay U.S. providers.
Travel insurance fills the home-side gap. An optional separate policy (~$50–$120) covers some U.S. medical costs and trip interruptions. Recommended.
If something happensHow it works while you're with us.
Hopefully you never need this. But if you do, the process is simple — we handle it directly. You won't be filing claim forms or fighting with an insurance company.
Tell your nurse or surgeon
If something feels wrong during your stay, tell anyone on the medical team. Concerns are escalated to the surgeon within minutes. The 24/7 nursing team is built around early-warning detection.
We respond with full resources
If imaging, additional testing, additional surgery, or extended observation is needed, it happens. No insurance committee deciding what's "approved." Your surgeon decides what's right.
You leave when it's safe
We extend hospital nights, hotel stays, and rebook your flights as needed — all under this policy. You go home when your surgical team clears you, not when a clock runs out.
Common questionsAbout the coverage.
-
Genuinely included in every bariatric package. There is no version of our pricing that excludes it, and no "premium" upgrade. Every patient gets the same protection, period.
-
From the moment you arrive at our hotel or hospital for pre-op testing, through every hospital night, through your final hotel observation night, until you board your flight home. If a complication occurs in that window, it's covered.
-
Honest answer: U.S. ER visits, primary care, and any U.S. surgeries are not covered by this policy. We can't control American hospital pricing and we won't promise coverage we can't deliver. Your U.S. health insurance, HSA/FSA, or optional travel insurance handle that side. If your situation allows, returning to Pompeii in Mexico for evaluation is covered.
-
No. Even if additional cardiac, pulmonary, or other testing reveals something that prevents surgery, you don't pay for the testing. Your safety comes first — we never want patients afraid to disclose a condition out of cost concern.
-
Yes. Your coordinator shares the full coverage policy in your pre-op packet — before you book. Ask any time and they'll send it. We don't hide anything in fine print.
-
No. Keep your U.S. health insurance. This policy covers complications under our roof in Mexico. Your U.S. plan covers everything outside that — unrelated illness, ongoing chronic care, anything that happens after you fly home.
-
Different things. Complication insurance (this page) covers medical complications during your stay in Mexico. Travel insurance (separate, optional) covers logistics — flight cancellations, lost baggage, family emergencies, and some home-side medical costs. Many patients carry both.
