I wanted to share my story to give hope to anyone starting this path, and to brag a bit about the incredible care I received here! At my heaviest before surgery, I weighed 265 pounds. Thanks to a strict two-week pre-op prep, I dropped from 250 down to 230 pounds by my surgery date on September 29, 2021. Post-surgery, my weight settled at 185 pounds, a milestone I proudly maintained for two years. In October 2023, I hit a major speed bump. A new diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and the medications that came with it triggered some weight gain. Determined to protect the beautiful tool my surgeon gave me, I partnered with a team to start GLP-1 therapy in March 2024 at 210 pounds. Today, I am maintaining my lowest weight ever: 135 pounds. The difference in my mobility between 265 and 135 pounds is absolutely beyond comparison. I am a completely different person. Simply being able to breathe without feeling claustrophobic in my own body has healed the severe body dysmorphia I struggled with at the beginning. Today, I easily walk 20 miles a week. I no longer suffer from blistered toes, painful inner-thigh chafing, or exhaustive recovery times. Even compression socks are now a choice for comfort rather than a medical necessity to fight fluid retention. I finally feel beautiful. This surgery taught me to prioritize my physical and mental health above all else. I've even invested in a dedicated skincare routine to reverse years of sun damage and love the skin I’m in. To finish this incredible transformation, my next steps are a breast reconstruction and a bilateral brachioplasty, followed eventually by a 360 abdominal lift.
